Packaging for cheese and butter: what should the food packaging look like

Before a product lands on the supermarket shelf or on our table as breakfast, lunch, or dinner - it goes through a long way of production. And this applies not only to its contents, but also to packaging. It is important that the product meets the standards, does not contain harmful ingredients, and at the same time is long-lasting and has an attractive appearance among the commodities of competitors.

The packaging is responsible for the shelf life and preservation of the product properties. It protects the commodity from direct sunlight, maintains the required temperature of the product and does not disturb the taste balance.

Depending on the product and its properties, different types of packaging exist. These can be glass containers, polyethylene film, composite materials, and a variety of flexible packaging. Today we are going to talk about packaging for dairy products, which is appropriate for market requirements, namely packaging for butter and processed cheese.

The situation on the dairy market

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in 2019, Ukrainians consumed 8427.9 thousand tons of milk and dairy products. According to statistics, one person consumes 200.5 kg of dairy products per year, which puts the dairy market on the first place in terms of consumption in Ukraine.

When choosing dairy products, customers firstly pay attention to the price and give preference to the cheaper brand, but they also pay attention to compliance with "price-quality". The most popular good is milk, because it is widely used in cooking and often added to coffee.

The demand for certain types of dairy products grows annually. Due to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, the demand for cheese and yogurt has grown. Office workers, students and athletes prefer drinking yogurt, which is very nutritious and suitable for a quick snack.

Given the market demand and product characteristics, it should be noted that dairy products require quality packaging to preserve the nutritional characteristics and extend its shelf life. Packaging must meet industry standards: do not have its own smell, be barrier to odours and sunlight, be made of the most harmless materials.

Consumers are picky about products as well and prefer practical, informative, and cheap packaging. They also pay attention to its environmental friendliness, that is why manufacturers should mind not only to the material, but also the design of packaging and its shape.

What should the food packaging look like?

Firstly, the packaging must ensure compliance with sanitary norms and meet the requirements for product protection, namely:

  1. Be airtight and barrier;
  2. Protect from corrosion, direct sunlight and the environment in general;
  3. Focus on the features of the product and be resistant to fats contained in the product;
  4. Meet the standards of material thickness. For example, the standard for processed cheeses is a foil of 14 microns with the heat seal lacquered coating;
  5. Save any specified shape.

JSC "TECHNOLOGIA" is a leading manufacturer of packaging for dairy products that meets the above and all industry standards.
